The Great Hanshin Earthquake 1995
Local ScenesThe Great Hanshin Earthquake occurred on January 17, 1995, at 05:46:53 JST in the southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, including the region known as Hanshin.
I was on a ferry boat to Hokkaido when the announcement came over the PA system that there had been a big quake near Kobe.
Kimura-san’s studio was near Koshien Stadium and you can see by the map how close that was.
We were in Hokkaido for 3 weeks before I got back to the studio and could visit the effected areas and get these photos.

Twin Towers Nostalgic Scans
Local Scenes
As seen from New Jersey. Here is a watercolor style treatment of my own dusk photo from the 90’s.
Not many skylines were as recognizable as New York’s with those twin towers, simply unmistakable.
I have a few more scenes from this side of Manhattan, and a few from the other side, mostly dusk. Some of them are medium format, and some are 4×5 inch. This was back when I shot a lot of 4×5 inch film.
I mostly used Kodak Ektachrome, and Fuji Velvia or Provia.
Coyote
Local ScenesI almost missed this chance. I was driving away from a shoot and happened to glance left at a clearing in the trees and what do I see?
This graceful beast just standing there like it owned the place… which we know it does.
I was treated to many poses, and even a brief sit-down, but I guess I overstayed my welcome and in a few minutes the show was over and the coyote slipped into the autumn background.
What a beautiful creature.
Also see an interesting post on coyotes on the Strathcona Community League site.
